NDA Estate Supply Chain Event – Thursday 1st November 2018
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Estate Supply Chain Event is organised by the industry for the industry. Last year’s showcase event attracted around 1,600 delegates, providing opportunities to network with more than 300 exhibiting companies. With a particular focus on SMEs, the aim is also to attract new businesses to the nuclear decommissioning sector.
This years’ event was again held at Manchester’s EventCity on the 1st November and demonstrated year-on-year growth with over 2,000 delegates registered to attend. A new advancement from previous years was the introduction of a smartphone app that delegates could download to their mobile devices prior to the conference opening. This helped attendees find their way around the venue, learn more about the companies exhibiting, assist in networking with their industry colleagues and view the schedule of keynote speakers in the main auditorium. These presenters included the NDA’s CEO, David Peattie, and the Commercial Director for the Ministry of Defence (MOD), Jim Carter.
Following on from the success of previous years, the NDA also announced the return of the Innovation Zone as part of the event, which was co-sponsored by the NDA and Innovate UK. This was a dedicated space for companies who have innovative technical products to display. North West Projects was pleased to be offered a location within this zone where we could demonstrate our innovative use of laser scanning survey techniques in combination with our 3D design modelling capability. Visitors to the exhibition stand were keen to try on our Virtual Reality (VR) equipment and immerse themselves in a digital representation of a process plant produced from the results of a real world laser scan.
New for this year was the People Zone, which brought together companies working to support people within the nuclear industry. Whether this is through skills development, attraction into the industry, recruitment or addressing equality, diversity and inclusion.
Overall it was a great day and North West Projects were pleased to play a part in what has quickly become the flagship annual supplier event for our industry.
